Biomarker assays for research in neurodegeneration and neuroimmune disorders

Neurological Biomarkers

At Oxford BioSystems, we support scientists and clinicians studying neurodegenerative and neuroimmune disorders by providing high-quality biomarker assays for use with cerebrospinal fluid and blood samples. Our range of products from a selection of leading immunoassay manufacturers includes kits designed to deliver reliable, reproducible data to support neurological research.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a group of disorders including Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), that are characterised by the progressive loss of structure respective function of neurons, including their death. As research in this field increases, more diseases are shown to have similar cellular and sub-cellular pathogenic mechanisms.

One of the key challenges in diagnosing these conditions is the high overlap of symptoms, especially those causing cognitive impairment. However, recent research has identified a number of proteins that can aid in the characterisation of neurodegenerative disease, leading to the development of assays that could help to guide both clinicians and further research in the field.

Our product range is enhanced with additional kits for the detection and quantification of biogenic amines and biomarkers involved in inflammation or dysregulation of immune activity within the nervous system.

ViennaLab - Apolipoprotein E StripAssay®

Certain variants of Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) have been linked to specific health conditions: ApoE2 is associated with type III hyperlipoproteinemia, while ApoE4 is associated with cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

The ViennaLab assay is designed for the identification of apolipoprotein (apo) E isoforms E2, E3 and E4 based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reverse-hybridization. The assay allows the discrimination between six possible heterozygous or homozygous apo E genotypes: E2/2, E2/3, E2/4, E3/3, E3/4, E4/4.

Kamiya Biomedical Company – Immunoturbidimetric reagents

Antisera, calibrators and controls for the quantitative determination of human Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) in serum and plasma by immunoturbidimetric assay. Protocols are available for use on a variety of different chemistry analysers.
