Improve the Sensitivity of Your Neurological Biomarker Detection

Oxford Biosystems | 08 Jun, 2026 | Neurology | Return|

Reliable detection of neurological biomarkers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) remains a key challenge in neurodegenerative disease research. Many of these markers are present at very low concentrations, and biological samples can contain components that interfere with accurate measurement.

The Tecan-IBL Neuro IP product portfolio supplied by Roboscreen, is available in the UK and Ireland through Oxford Biosystems and is designed to address these challenges through pre-analytical immunoprecipitation and enrichment of low-abundance neurological biomarkers from cell-free body fluids prior to downstream analysis.

Improved detection through targeted enrichment

The Neuro IP Kit is recommended for use alongside IBL-Tecan’s magnetic Immuno Beads, available for a range of neurological targets. These beads are coated with monoclonal antibodies directed against proteins including various forms of human tau, beta-amyloid, and alpha-synuclein, enabling selective enrichment prior to downstream analysis. Additional targets may also be available on request.

This antibody-based capture system selectively binds target proteins from cell-free biological fluids, including plasma, serum, and CSF

Figure 2. Enhanced separation of Alzheimer’s disease and control samples using SIMOA™ analysis of Tau-IP eluates compared with direct plasma measurement.

As shown in Figures 1 and 2 above, the Neuro IP kit enables enrichment of target proteins and reduces background interference, enhancing the sensitivity and reliability of downstream detection. This can support clearer and more consistent measurements across a range of analytical platforms, including the MESO QuickPlex, ELECSYS®, SIMOA™, LUMIPULSE®, and ELISA-based methods.

Complementary neurodegeneration assays from IBL-Tecan

To support broader neurodegeneration research, IBL-Tecan also offers a range of assays for the measurement of key neurological biomarkers in blood and CSF.

These include:

  • Total tau and phosphorylated tau isoforms (Alzheimer’s disease research), including a new luminescence immunoassay for Brain-Derived Tau (BD-Tau) in plasma samples
  • Amyloid beta peptides (Aβ40 and Aβ42, associated with amyloid plaque pathology in Alzheimer’s disease)
  • Alpha-synuclein (linked to Parkinson’s disease and related disorders)
  • Neurofilament light chain (NfL, a marker of neuronal damage) – kits are available for use with serum and CSF samples

Used alongside the Neuro IP Kit, these assays enable a combined enrichment and detection workflow that can improve data quality, sensitivity, and consistency in neurodegenerative disease research.

If you are interested in exploring IBL-Tecan's wider neurodegeneration portfolio, you can download the Neurodegeneration Brochure for an overview of available assays, biomarkers, and research applications.
