The range of assays available includes point of care CRP and hsCRP. NICE Guidelines [CG191] published in December 2014 recommends the use of CRP results to guide antibiotic prescribing in people without a clinical diagnosis of pneumonia. This is significant in the global initiative for Antimicrobial Stewardship as widespread inappropriate use of antibiotics has led to the increase in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) becoming a global healthcare and economic problem.
